LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Earth Day is coming up in a few weeks and even though it may look a little different this year, one local organization is still hoping to connect our kids with healthy food and nature.
This year’s Earth Fair is being held virtually.
The non-profit “GROW” recorded a reading Tuesday of the book “Worm McWorm and the Decomposers” by local author Nick Nichols.
They hope to teach kids more about how worms and other decomposers play an important role in our environment and even in growing healthy foods.
“The whole focus is to try to educate kids right away on how important it is to help build that soil and build compost by using food scraps and leaves and grass clippings and these kinds of things so they can break down and you can use them in your garden, they benefit the organisms in your garden and they they help grow the food you get to eat,” said Nichols.
A limited supply of the book “Worm McWorm and the Decomposers” is available at Pearl Street Books and Larson’s General, both in downtown La Crosse.
All proceeds from the sales go to GROW’s programs.
